When the opponent is strong India, it is difficult to overcome. India was the opponent of Bangladesh in the two finals of the Asia Cup Archery. Bangladesh supposedly lost to India in both the finals in Iraq’s capital Baghdad today. A strong India won the gold. Bangladesh should be happy to win the silver.
In the recurve men’s team event, Bangladesh, composed of Hakeem Ahmed, Sagar Islam and Abdur Rahman, lost to India by 2-6 set points in the final. Bangladesh’s 3 archers scored 55 in the first set. India makes 54. Although they started with a win, Hakim-Sagars were overwhelmed in the next set. The score was only 49, India made 54. India won the third set by 57–53 points. Bangladesh needed a comeback in the fourth set to survive. On the contrary, the loss in the fourth set was 56-53 points.
Bangladesh did not win a set in the recurve mixed team event final that followed. Sagar Islam and Dia Siddiqui’s Bangladesh lost to India by 0-6. Bangladesh could not compete in the final.
Bangladesh archers made the day by winning bronze. In the women’s recurve team category, Dia Siddiqui, Seema Akhtar and Famida Sultana, Bangladesh beat hosts Iraq 6-0 to win the bronze. With this, Bangladesh’s medal tally in the tournament is four. Bangladesh have another bronze medal match today. Hakeem Ahmed will fight for the only individual medal in the recurve. The opponent is Uzbekistan’s Sadiq Amir Khan.
